Listed below are some extra performance and development opportunities for chorus members. Each of these honor choirs each has its own selection process. There is usually a small fee for participation as well as the potential cost for travel to each location. Participation in honor choirs allows a student to rehearse and perform with a group of high level singers, and learn from an experienced guest conductor.
Selection for these groups is competetive at the school, district, state, and national level. Applying and auditioning for a select group is a binding commitment to participate if selected.
Brief information on each group is presented below. Contact the Director for more specific details and guidance on how to apply, prepare, and audition.
The District V Honor Chorus is organized by the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA). Singers from schools in Fulton County and Atlanta, selected by their school choral directors, are combined into large ensembles with a guest conductor. Rehearsals are on Friday and Saturday, followed by a concert on Saturday afternoon.

The Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) sponsors the All State Chorus each year in Athens, Georgia. Participants are selected by a competetive audition process that includes performing a prepared solo, scales, and demonstrating sight reading ability. Registration for the audition is in September, with auditions held in November. Participants that pass the first audition face a second audition, usually in January where they are expected to demonstrate that they have learned their music.
During All State week, participants attend rehearsals on Thursday and Friday, followed by a performance on Saturday. There are three High School All State Chorus ensembles: Women's Choir, Men's Choir, and the Mixed Choir. Each choir is led by a guest clinician, usually a choral educator from a college or university music program.
January 26 - 28, 2017
The All State Reading Choir is also sponsored by GMEA and focuses on sight reading skills. The audition process requires singers to demonstrate advanced sight reading abilities, as does the rehearsal and performance event. Selection for this choir is highly competetive.

Spivey Hall is an outstanding performance space located on the campus of Clayton State University. As part of their educational outreach mission, each fall Spivey Hall welcomes young singers to be part of the Honor Choir. Partcipants are auditioned and nominated by their school chorus directors. If selected, honor choir members attend several rehearsals over a week-long period, ending with a performance in Spivey Hall on a Saturday afternoon. The choir is conducted by a different guest clinician each year, usually an experienced choral educator from a leading university. The honor choir provides an opportunity for singers to learn from exceptional teachers and perform with a high-level ensemble in the fantastic Spivey Hall.
